Celebrate Tuvalu Independence Day
Tuvalu celebrates Independence Day on October 1, commemorating independence from the United Kingdom in 1978. For Tuvaluans at home and overseas, the holiday is a celebration of the nation’s culture, communities and Pacific identity.
The Tuvalu flag
Tuvalu’s flag has a light-blue field, the Union Jack in the canton and nine yellow stars. The stars represent the islands of Tuvalu and are arranged to reflect their geographic position.
Tuvaluan identity across the Pacific and beyond
Migration has created Tuvaluan communities and family connections across the Pacific, particularly in countries such as New Zealand, Australia and Fiji. A combined flag can represent Tuvalu alongside the second place that has become part of a family’s story.
Tuvalu + New Zealand, Tuvalu + Australia and Tuvalu + Fiji are examples, but your combination can be any pairing that is meaningful to you.
